Jake Merritt, Owner of Soul Echoes Tattoo
Jake is a tattoo artist and glassblower born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He fell in love with art, music, and tattoos as a small child and pursued his dream of becoming an artist at 16. He was mentored in tattooing by a friend’s dad after school and took glassblowing classes at his high school. When he was offered a job at Tacoma Glassblowing Studio in 2008, he poured his heart and soul into being the best craftsman and teacher he could be, putting his tattoo career on a temporary hiatus. Jake would later need a full knee replacement, making glassblowing difficult for an extended period. This did not deter him from continuing in the arts – instead, he shifted gears and returned to his first passion, tattooing, and thus created Soul Echoes Tattoo.

As a tattoo artist, Jake puts the same dedication and heart into every single piece of art he creates that he does as a glassblower. He strives to build a positive relationship with every client he serves and ensures that they feel welcome and at ease from the moment they enter his shop. He loves creating bold, illustrative tattoo designs in black and white or with vibrant color.
To Jake, “Ink your story, echo your soul” is more than a catchy slogan. It’s important to him that every tattoo he creates is exactly the way his customer wants it, and that their vision comes to life. Jake wants everyone to know they are a partner in the artistic process and that he values their trust in him to deliver art that reflects their journey.
Outside the shop, Jake is a family man who loves going on adventures with his wife, daughter, and rescue dog, Max. He’s a talented musician and artist who fills his home with the sound of guitar melodies and laughter.
