What is the difference between glassblowing and glass fusing. Glassblowing?
Glassblowing
Glassblowing involves shaping molten glass by blowing air into it through a metal pipe.
Glass is heated in a furnace to about 2,000°F The artist blows and shapes the glass
while it’s hot and moving. Requires constant reheating and quick work. Glassblowing is
technically demanding and usually requires long-term training.
Glass Fusing
Glass fusing uses flat pieces of glass that are layered, arranged, and melted together in
a kiln. Glass pieces are cut and arranged cold. Fired in a kiln up to about
1,450–1,500°F. Glass melts and fuses into a solid piece over several hours. Glass
fusing is beginner-friendly, super creative and forgiving.
How long is a fusing class?
Classes are 2 hours long. We’ll begin with about 15 minutes of instruction, then you’ll
have plenty of time to work on your project.
What will I make?
You’ll create a custom glass fusing piece of your choice! The class includes one 6”×6”
tile, two 4”×4” tiles, two 4”×4” nightlights, four wind chimes, or three ornaments.
Optional upgrades are available, including 8”×8” or 10”×10” larger pieces, dichroic add-
ons, and dish or hanging options.
How should I prepare for the class?
This class is relaxed, fun, and pressure-free. Abstract designs are always welcome, and
many guests simply choose colors they love and experiment. We suggest browsing
Etsy, Pinterest, or our Facebook page for inspiration. We highly recommend arriving
with a rough idea of what you’d like to create—deciding what to make can be the
hardest part, and having an idea gives you more time to create.
Are materials included?
Yes! All standard glass materials are included in the class price. Specialty glass (such
as dichroic) is available for purchase, with prices starting at just a few dollars and never
exceeding $4 per bag.
What happens when I’m finished creating my piece?
At the end of class, you’ll complete a form with your name, selected shape, and any
upgrades. This ensures your piece is fused and shaped exactly as you’ve chosen. We’ll
review all the details with you before checkout to make sure everything is correct.
When do I pick up my piece?
Your finished glass artwork will be ready for pickup in 7 days. We’ll hold your piece for
up to 3 months. Please have all names you will be picking up for.
Can someone else pick up my piece?
Yes! A friend may pick up your artwork for you.
What is the Age requirement for glass fusing?
Minimum age is 8 yrs old.
Are there any safety requirements or limitations?
We require safety glasses for everyone. Gloves are recommended for adults and
required for those under 18 years of age.
Sometimes cutting the glass can be a challenge for those with issues with hand strength
but we do have lots of options for glass that does not require cutting.
Do you ship?
Yes we do, UPS or USPS.
Do you offer private events?
Yes we do, for groups of 6-40. Requests can be made through Class Bento or directly
through the owner Jeannine at tgsglass@gmail.com
Is your location wheelchair accessible?
Yes it is.
Do you have parking?
We have a small parking lot in front that we share with the dry cleaners.
Mon-Sat, we have 3 spots and Sunday we have all 6 spots. There is also street parking
on 27 th or nearby.
Do you offer other workshops?
We do. We offer Glassblowing at our downtown locations.
At our Proctor location we have glass fusing, Ocean resin, Flower resin, Suncatcher
resin and sign workshops currently.
